The ABC of It

Last weekend, I ventured to the New York Public Library for their new exhibit, “Why Children’s Books Matter”. Surprisingly, I’ve never actually gone inside of the NY Public Library, & I have to say that it’s quite impressive! I could easily spend an entire day just wandering around the expansive building. This exhibit, however, made the trip worthwhile– it was informative & made me pretty nostalgic for the days of picture books & bedtime stories.

1
I’m a HUGE Alice in Wonderland fan, so I was definitely super excited to see such an array of Alice in Wonderland & Lewis Carroll memorabilia. There was an original copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland that Lewis Carroll gifted to Alice herself, along with other rare copies & illustrations.

I loved getting to revisit some of the classic tales I’ve forgotten throughout the years. Peter Rabbit, Charlotte’s Web, Madeline! I had loved these stories when I was younger & yet I had not really thought of them in years.
5
It was also quite eye-opening to see how children’s books are written & illustrated in other countries. I loved these rabbit stories!
6
Another highlight: the original Winnie the Pooh & friends! I have also loved Winnie the Pooh since my early days, so this was also pretty cool to see.

So, if you happen to find yourself in the city, I highly recommend stoping by the New York Public Library for a trip down memory lane. The exhibit only takes about an hour, it’s free, & you’ll feel like you’ve been transported back to the simpler days of childhood– what could be better?
